Sticky Sesame Tofu
I like to use frozen broccoli and minute rice for this recipe just to make it extra easy
Prep time: 15 mins
Cook time: 25 mins
Makes 2 servings
Easy
Ingredients
1 block extra-firm tofu
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp cornstarch
Your favourite store-bought sauce (e.g. orange ginger, General Tao, teriyaki, etc.)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
Use a clean kitchen towel to gently press excess water out of the tofu
Use your hands to break the tofu up into bite-sized pieces
Toss the tofu in a bowl with the olive oil and soy sauce
Add half the cornstarch, mix, then add the rest
Spread the tofu out onto a lined baking sheet
Bake for 20 minutes
Heat 1 cup of your favourite sauce in a medium pan
Add the tofu and cook at medium heat until the sauce starts to bubble
Reduce the heat and stir occasionally until the tofu has absorbed most of the sauce (5 mins)
Serve over rice with microwaved broccoli or edamame
Top with sesame seeds and green onions
Green Fact
A 2019 study conducted in Guelph, Ontario, found that the average household generates approximately 2.98 kg of avoidable food waste per week. Contextualizing this in economic, nutritional, and environmental impacts, the study estimated that avoidable food waste per household was equivalent to:
$18 per week (adjusted for inflation, this is about $22 per week in 2026)
3366 calories per week (5-6 extra individual meals)
1.2 tons of CO2 per year (equivalent to ¼ of the emissions of a car being driven for a year)
